At Evan’s Leak Detection, we don’t just rely on the latest technology to detect your leaks – we pair it with our deep understanding of building and plumbing systems that comes from 50 years of owner-operated experience.
We also recognize that homes built in different eras have unique plumbing layouts due to changing codes over the years. A house constructed in the 50s will have a vastly different system than one built in the 2000s. Our expertise spans these changes, enabling us to provide you with efficient and cost-effective solutions tailored specifically for your home or office’s needs.

SLAB LEAK REPAIR OPTIONS
Once a slab leak has been detected, our experienced leak specialist will provide you with an array of repair options. They can also tell you more about the pros and cons for each.
Our motto is “Non-Invasive, Cost Effective”, which is why Evan’s Leak Detection strives for the least destructive method when repairing a slab leak.
In most instances the repair method will likely be determined by the location and nature of the leak. However, homeowners are always encouraged to make informed decisions about these processes and how they are handled.
Repairs May Include
Re-Route
After detecting the leak and identifying its source, your technician will devise an optimal plan to reroute the pipe. This could be through an attic, crawl space, or towards the nearest manifold with minimal drywall disruption.
They’ll discuss these options with you as some homes may have multiple solutions while others only have one. The leaking section of the pipe will then eliminated from your plumbing system permanently.
Following this, they’ll carry out the agreed rerouting process, ensuring that all appliances and fixtures previously affected by the leak function properly without any leakage.
Pass-Through
This is the least invasive process for correcting a slab leak. It entails cutting the leaking pipe at the entrance and exit point. Then pushing a smaller diameter pex pipe though the entire length and reconnecting to the system at both ends.
The upside is that this is least invasive, as drywall is only opened at the entrance and exit points. Many times, these entrance and exit points are under sinks and vanities so no drywall damage shows.
The downside is since this is a smaller diameter pipe inside of the larger diameter copper pipe, flow will be reduced. On larger pipes such as ¾ and larger, the flow rate is not as noticeable.
Direct Access
This method involves breaking your slab using tools like a jackhammer, which we aim to avoid due to its invasive nature. Newer homes, built according to California Code without “T” joints or elbows in their plumbing, seldom require this approach. Instead, rerouting or bypassing the problem pipe is less invasive and effective.
However, many older houses were constructed with “T” joints and elbows under the slab. For these properties, direct access through the slab may be necessary for repair work.
Despite the construction differences between old and new homes, our technicians prioritize minimal disruption while ensuring efficient repairs.
Epoxy
Epoxy pipe lining involves coating the inner surface of pipes with epoxy resin. This seals off pinholes and corrosion, offering a durable solution for pipe issues.
While this method works well for vertical pipes, it has limitations when applied to horizontal ones in slabs. The liquid nature of epoxy means it pools at the bottom of horizontal pipes leading to uneven coverage and reduced flow rate due to a smaller internal diameter.
Therefore, we recommend this approach only in specific situations such as kitchen islands where opening up the floor isn’t an option and creating a pass-through is impossible.
Slab Leak Prevention
After we have successfully resolved your leak issues, we offer an additional layer of security for your peace of mind. We can install innovative web-based solutions utilizing Flo by Moen technology. This cutting-edge system is designed to monitor your home’s plumbing round-the-clock, ensuring that any potential future leaks are detected at their earliest stages.
This proactive approach not only safeguards your property but also saves you from potential costly repairs and the inconvenience of dealing with water damage. It’s another way we’re committed to providing comprehensive and forward-thinking solutions for all our clients’ needs.
